New album: Ten Years After by James @ 3:57 pm

I have uploaded a new album, called Ten Years After. It consists of recordings from 2005 & 2006. Once again, I played all the instruments and wrote all the songs. These all have real-life drums, not the drum mosheen or midi samples. Anyway, I gave up on these recordings at the end of 2006 and started the band, but recently remixed and mastered them. They sound great, if I do say so myself. The name is a play on “2 Years In The South”, where the recordings spanned 1996-1998. Go take a listen on the discography page. Complete artwork is available, too.

As always, everything is free here, so go willy nilly vanilly at my expense… please.

“US Copyright Registry” scam by James @ 5:45 pm

For those of you who may own a domain name, there is a new scam e-mail going around. The more people to know about it, the better. So, here: http://domainnamewire.com/2008/03/12/domain-scam-us-copyright-registry/

I got an e-mail today from support@uscopyrightregistry.com which looks like the classic e-mail scam, but it had my personal information, addressed to me, with my physical address listed (this is all of course public knowledge from the WHOIS registration information for MedinaLine.com) warning me about personal liability, etc.

Have you Googled yourself lately? by James @ 8:30 pm

So, here’s the course of my evening…

    • Finish watching Cube 2: Hypercube, which I fell asleep during previously.
    • Watch the bonus features of said DVD.
    • Google myself, with quotes (”james moats”)

Funny thing, I have been “on the internet” for about 9 years now, different sites for personal stuff, bands, etc. I am continually amazed at how far down in search results my actively updated web pages are. Below genealogy stuff, even. Here’s a run-down:

    # 2 – Random Acts – Mountain XPress review of a CD I sent them in 2004.

    # 5 – Fiction comments from thejamesmachine.com, Cashbox part 2, written by Lincoln Benson.

#13 – My bio page at the old address

#15 – The updates log at NirvanaGuide.com crediting me with a couple of shows that had missing information.

#23 – Days Like Rusty Nails video on YouTube.

    #24 – A link from Dan’s YouTube page to #23 video.

#66 – A Spanish language reprint of the #15 entry

#70 – The Random Avatars Mod I wrote for phpBB forums being linked to from a .sk site… SK?

#92 – This one MADE MY DAY. Someone called SheBoo asked a Yahoo! Answers question, who wrote my song “Calling Clifford Miracle”. On a side note, someone called “sunshine” answered it.

#104 – Similar to #2 – Random Acts – Mountain XPress interview with ChunkStyle in 2001.

#111 – Days Like Rusty Nails video on Taiwanese You Tube.

#114 – My name, address, phone number, and an old e-mail address on a site called “email4marketers.com”. MAY THEY SIMMER SLOWLY IN THE CROCK POT OF HELL.

#132 – A rehash of the #92 “who wrote this” on the .th version of Yahoo! Answers. TH?

That’s all. Two pages of results…

So, the moral of the story is if you were considering writing over 200 songs, publishing as many recordings, writing short fiction, and paying for web hosting charges to put your creative intentions on display for the world to see for the sake of Google.com recognition, I wouldn’t suggest it. It will only leave a burning in your tummy.

    Sleep well tonight, SheBoo!
